How to Check Backlinks

   In order to rank high in Google, you must obtain a number of backlinks, depending on the amount of backlinks that the top 10 competing websites in Google have.

    You can check for backlinks using several tools:

BacklinkWatch:  This tool is semi-useful.  It allows you to enter one only one URL at a time and each analysis takes up to 5 minutes depending on the size of that webpage.   The results will only show you the backlinks to the exact URL that you analyze.  Analysis of http://www.makecashwithtwitter.com will only show links to that webpage, NOT the entire domain.

Pros: Allows user to view link text of the backlinks to the given URL.

Cons: Only one URL can be analzyed at a time! Terrible! No commercial intent shown. Tool fails to provide results due to error about 10% of the time.
 

Yahoo Site Explorer:  This tool is very useful and informative.  BacklinkWatch, WebCompAnalyst, and many other tools use this site as the major resource of backlink information.  Click on "Inlinks". IMPORTANT – Be sure to select "Except from this domain" because Google does not count links that sites have to themselves.

Pros: Allows user to view the amount of backlinks of an entire domain. Information is displayed for each backlink and the links are clickable.

Cons: Link text is not available! How awful is that?! Again, only one URL can be analzyed at a time. No commercial intent shown. Tool fails to provide results due to error about 10% of the time.
 

   As you will be able to tell from using these tools, they are EXTREMELY LIMITED.  WebCompAnalyst is the tool that you really need.
